Lincoln County. Barn owl (Tyto alba). Young barn owls are rescued from a barn before it is scheduled to be torn down. The owlets couldn’t fly yet, so Julie Geiser got them out of the barn, took care of them and transported them to Raptor Recovery. They were then release back into the wild west of North Platte. Barn Owls nest and roost in tree cavities, cavities in cliffs, abandoned barns and buildings. Barn Owls are nocturnal and hunt by flying low over open areas searching for small rodents. They hunt mostly by sound, but will use their keen eyesight. Geiser, July 16, 2018. Copyright NEBRASKAland Magazine, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
